Idioms that defy translation: Das Leben ist kein Ponyhof

The German phrase "Das Leben ist kein Ponyhof," literally means „Life is not a pony farm.“

Bizarre, huh? In fact, in German it is a whimsical saying, laden with pragmatic realism, basicaly summariseing the idea that life is not always easy or idyllic. The English language lacks a direct equivalent, and attempts to convey the sentiment may fall short in capturing the blend of humor and straightforwardness inherent in the German original, but hey, life isn’t a pony farm and translating some sentences takes more effort than others…
