Part one: Why network?

Part one: Why network?

Setting the scene: Two sisters discussing how they run their businesses – one in the UK, one in Germany. Why do you spend so much time networking? asks sister one.

There is no short answer to this question because networking is my life elixir!

Depending on where you network as an entrepreneur, you can reap a myriad of positive rewards – to name but a few:

Opening doors, building bridges

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know… The old saying proves that by connecting with people from diverse backgrounds, industries, and expertise, you open yourself up to a world of possibilities: job opportunities, collaborations, mentorship, and even friendships can all culminate in increased revenues.

Knowing the right people can often be the differentiating factor between landing your dream job or watching it slip away.

Knowledge sharing and life-long learning

Learning from each other.  Each person you meet brings a unique perspective, unique experiences, and insights to the table. Engaging in conversations, attending industry events, and participating in online forums allow you to tap into a wealth of knowledge that can enrich your understanding of your field and broaden your skill set. In a rapidly evolving world, continuous learning is essential for staying relevant and adaptable. And if you happen to sit next to someone on a different wave-length you can always change seats…

Personal growth and confidence building

Networking is a powerful tool for personal growth. Stepping out of your comfort zone to initiate conversations with strangers or speak at events can boost your confidence and communication skills. As you navigate different social settings and engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds, you cultivate empathy, cultural awareness, and interpersonal skills—all of which are invaluable traits in both personal and professional contexts.

Nurturing long-term relationships

Networking is not a quick shot, revenue-increasing activity. But if you nurture your relationships, build a rapport with those around you, demonstrate authenticity and offer value to your connections, over time your company will grow sustainably.

Conclusion

Embrace the power of networking, and watch as doors open, bridges are built, and your horizons expand in new ways. Because networking is a life-long journey. A way of life. (For me).
